A few years ago, my husband was lucky enough to visit Vienna, Austria at Christmastime. He strolled and shopped in a real European marketplace. It was charming and beautiful. He assures me that the Lowe’s Toronto Christmas Market at the Distillery District has the same look and feel. He can hardly tell the difference between Vienna and Toronto…except for that tall, needle shaped building. When you are wondering where to shop in Toronto this season while also having fun with your entire family, be sure to visit the Lowe’s Toronto Christmas Market at the Distillery District (November 29th thru December 15th, 2013).
The Christmas Market has grown over the last few years. It has quickly become a “must visit” spot on everyone’s holiday list. Our family makes our way down at least once a year and I thought we could share a few of the reasons why we love the Distillery and the Christmas Market.
Where to Shop in Toronto for Family Fun This Holiday Season
Outdoor Family Fun – Perhaps the best part of the Lowe’s Toronto Christmas Market is the location itself. The entire event takes place outdoors, along the cobblestone streets of the historical Distillery District. Children can take walk down Santa’s Lane, listen to daily story telling sessions, sing-a-long with Santa’s elves, take a trip on the ferris wheel or visit the big guy himself, Santa. Spend some time outside of the shopping malls this holiday.
Music – While every shopping mall is blasting pop holiday songs, at the Christmas Market you will find authentic Christmas music filling the streets. You will be reminded of the beauty of holiday music. Taking the stage every day and evening will be; children’s choirs, carolers, classical organ concerts, trumpeters, Bavarian brass band, big bands and much more. They will have you singing in no time.
The BIG Tree – At the heart of the market is the huge 45 foot spruce tree, covered in twinkling lights. The beauty of the tree is overwhelming…children are not the only people staring in awe. The tree was donated by Trees Ontario. Shoppers who are in the market for a Christmas tree or a holiday wreath can pick one up at the Trees Ontario booth.
Shop Local – The streets in the Distillery District are magically transformed into a European Market. Wooden stalls line the cobblestone streets. In each small shop visitors will discover an Ontario, or a leading international artist and craftsperson. This really is where to shop in Toronto for unique gifts for everyone on your list.
The Food and Drink – Any event at the Distillery District has to involve good food and good drinks. Aside from finding lovely gifts, visitors will enjoy delicious food, a variety of beers, mulled wines, holiday cocktails and hot rum beverages. Grab a seat beside a real fire pit and enjoy a meal with family and friends.
